Walking Out My Salvation

"And so, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I am absent, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling."  Philippians 2:12.

There have been times in my life when God was not the focus of my life.  I remember those times and wonder how I made it through.  Now that I am older and hopefully wiser, I am taking a look through the years of my life and I see all the many things God has done in my life.  I am blessed beyond measure!  Everyday I have decided to see it as a new beginning and do my best to serve my Daddy God.

I will be 50 years old in two days!  I am almost half a century old.  I feel as if my life is just beginning and I want to make each day count for something.  I want to share the love of Jesus with one person everyday.  I want others to see Jesus in me.  If walking out your salvation means to examine your life and look at what you do with it, I will be checking myself continuously.  I truly want to please God in all I do.

I am a youth pastor of a small church in Liberty, Texas.  I want my youth group to understand the importance of placing their focus on God and what he wants for their lives.  His plan is so much greater and better than anything we could desire.  I know it is hard to be a teen in today's society, but God is their strength, their rock.  I really want them to grab a hold of Jesus and never let Him go.  He will never leave them or forsake them.  I want them to not make the same mistakes their friends are making or even the same mistakes I did.  I want to see them change their world.  I want them to want this Jesus Life.

A couple of weeks ago, three adults and eighteen young people went to Joplin, Missouri to help the tornado victims.  I have to say I was a little concerned as to what we would end up doing.  I was overwhelmed by the amount of damage I saw.  It was as if we had walked into a war torn country.  I have never seen anything like this before.  From the moment we got there we began to work.  I saw these young people put their hearts into the work at hand.  If it was unloading eighteen wheelers, picking up trash, building a house for a woman and her children, to hugging a person who had lost it all, these young people did it with a cheerful heart.  They overwhelmed me!  There was not a fight or argument among these young people.  They did great.  They reached out and touched a community that was hurting and will continue to hurt for a while.  They made new friends and reconnected with friends from the past.

Jesus!  Jesus!  Jesus!  There is just something about that name!  I want to walk in His way everyday!  I know the devil will throw things in my path to stop me or to make me stumble, but I will be ready.  Life is an adventure and with God as the head, it will be an adventure that will change lives and especially your own.  Well, here I go to see what God has in store for me as I walk out my salvation!
